One can only imagine what it is like to lose a son or daughter, and Alan was able to put it into words for those wanting to listen. An observant Jew, Mr. Busch says his faith never wavered, even after having lost his son, having gone through a divorce, and developing Parkinson's disease. Holistic Artist Shayna Bracha Farber!

This past week the Emes V'Emunah crew had special guest Joanne Farber (Shayna Bracha) on the show. She is a holistic artist who specializes in meditations, visualizations and vocalizations, and developed the technique known as Harmony FusionWave Awareness. Over a decade ago, Shayna was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a debilitating disease which can cause widespread pain and unwanted cold to the limbs. With the help of traditional medicine and a newfound connection with the spiritual realm, she was able to overcome classic symptoms of the disease, and today considers herself cured, having hiked to the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu and developed classes and radio broadcasts based on her art. Shifra Shomron, author of the acclaimed novel, Grains of Sand: The Fall of Neve Dekalim, and guest on the Tamar Yonah Show, joined us for an insightful evening in which we were fortunate enough to gain a glimpse of what it was like to live in one of the most fertile communities in Israel, and also to have to go through the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza, which happened to be her home. She spoke about her book, what people are doing to rebuild the community and what she believes to be the future of the Jewish people and the state of Israel. This Land is G-d's Land

Great show tonight; thanks to everyone who joined us.
I wrote the following in response to a friend of mine who wanted to know where exactly in the Torah is the commandment of maintaining the land, to not give it away and to be connected with it, both physically and spiritually.

Eretz Yisroel, the land of Israel, is more than just the promised land of the Jews. Yes, Hashem made a covenant with them for which they would receive Hashem’s favor and the land of their forefathers, if they should only obey the commandments dictated in the Torah. One of these commandments, however, is that if we indeed find ourselves with the land in our possession, we are not, under any circumstances, to give even a square inch of it away, not to our enemies, and not to our friends. There is nothing wrong with the goyim (nations of the world) living amongst us in our own land, as long as they have no intention of harming us or our aspirations. But history has proven that there is indeed a divine connection to the land that we must acknowledge.

As the 5th book of Moshe Rabbeinu, Devarim (Deuteronomy) comes to a close, Moshe dies and Yehoshua picks up where he left off to lead the people in to the Promised Land. G-d instructs the Jews as to how they are to conduct themselves when they enter and possess the land:

8. [Therefore] keep all the commandments that I command you this day, in order that you may be strong and come and possess the land to which you are crossing, to possess it,
9. and in order that you may prolong your days on the land that the Lord swore to your forefathers to give to them and to their seed a land flowing with milk and honey.

In Bereshis Raba 49, Hashem says: Israel and the people of Israel are beloved by me-- I'll bring My beloved Israel to My beloved land.

This might be an appropriate time to add the following. It is said that each verse in the Torah corresponds to a year in the Jewish calendar. In other words, clear parallels should be seen between what it says in the Five Books of Moshe and major events in our history. Probably the most famous of these allusions is the example given for the 5708th verse in the Torah, which corresponds to the year 5708 (1948 in the secular calendar). Devarim 30:2 states:

and you will return to the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul, and you will listen to His voice according to all that I am commanding you this day you and your children

As everyone very well knows, 1948 was the year in which the people of Israel miraculously returned to their G-d given land after an inconceivable Hell on Earth consumed roughly a third of the Jewish population. The wars subsequently won in 1967, in which Israel reclaimed Yerushalayim, and 1973, when practically the entire Arab world attempted to annihilate us on the holiest day of the year (Yom Kippur), were equally, if not more miraculous. These days, when remembering that period, we nostalgically recall the political figures who were at the forefront of a revolution. Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin, Moshe Dayan and Ariel Sharon. However, most of the veterans who lived it will admit that as a whole, the wars of modern Israel were nothing short of miraculous- or “luck” if they are that spiritually blind. Those who understood knew that G-d was pulling the strings for the Jewish people.

There is yet another miracle associated with the land. Prior to the Jews’ return shortly before 1948, the land of Israel was barren as it was destined to be when the Jews were exiled from it nearly 2000 years prior. After having visited the land in 1867, Mark Twain said this about it in his book, The Innocents Abroad:

“... A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds... a silent mournful expanse.... a desolation.... we never saw a human being on the whole route.... hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.”

When the Jews slowly started coming back, they worked the land as others tried to do but could not. It began to blossom and bloom, the fields again became a lush green, and Israel would henceforth be known for its rich and diverse landscape.

Needless to say, the greatest Torah scholars and sages of our history were all vehemently against giving away an iota of Jewish land:

The Lubavitcher Rebbe of Chabad:

“…here we are not discussing diplomacy, but the surrender of parts of Eretz Yisroel. The very fact that a negotiation on this is taking place is a desecration of G-D's Name and in opposition to G-D and His Torah.”

Prior to the acquisition of the state of Israel, it is said that the Rebbe was not necessarily for taking back the land forcefully, as this was a famous dilemma in Jewish law. Once the land was given to us by the nations of the world, however, the Rebbe would at every opportunity stand against dividing the land or giving any of it away to any other person, place or thing.

Rav Avraham Shapira, just before he recently passed away at the age of 94, gave the following final statement:

“The Land of Israel belongs to the Nation of Israel and was granted to us as an inheritance by the Creator of the world. Neither the Prime Minister nor anybody else has the right to give away areas, or even a grain, of the holy Land of Israel. The entire Land of Israel, according to the borders outlined in the Torah – belonged in the past, and belong in the present and future, only to the Nation of Israel, and it is forbidden by severe Torah prohibition to give up any of the territory of our holy land.”

Rashi, arguably the premier commentator on the Torah who conjured endless words of wisdom for Jews to study to this very day, presents the following as his first ever commentary:

R. Yitzchok said: The Torah should have begun with [the verse] "This month shall be [your first month]," it being the first precept that the Israelites were commanded. Then why does it [the Torah] begin with "In the beginning"? This is because [of the concept contained in the verse,] "He declared the power of His works to His people in order to give to them the inheritance of nations." Thus, should the nations of the world say to Israel, "You are robbers, for you have taken by force the lands of the Seven Nations," they [Israel] will say to them: "All the earth belongs to G-d. He created it and gave it to whomever He saw fit. It was His will to give it to them and it was His will to take it from them and give it to us."

Far from perfect, I need only a very small quantity of intellect to choose G-d, the sages of old and the true leaders of today, who are not necessarily recognized to the extent that they ought to be and will be, G-d willing, when the Redemption arrives. I stand against anyone and everyone who considers, even for a moment, the idea that it is permissible to let go of a square inch of G-d’s land. For who are we to be so arrogant in the Face of our Creator?

It's Been One Year!

Shalom fans and everyone else! We apologize for the lateness in posting.

Way back in late September of 2006, Robert (brother of Scott) and I made our first official broadcast on NoahChat.com! It was during the ten day period between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, and we talked about doing real tshuva (returning to Gd). It's been almost a year since then, and the fanbase has grown, Israel's been active, and much has been said. Oh, and Scott took Robert's place.
Being that I am now running on a laptop with windows vista, I am having trouble switching between mic and stereo, and thus I cannot play music during the show without logging out of the room and coming back in. Gd willing, by September 20 next week this will be resolved and we will have an AMAZING one year anniversary show! We're looking forward to it.

Also, I realize the links to previous shows are not working. Eddy, the man who used to host our shows on his website, unfortunately had to close his site. We understand completely as it does require a regular fee and this can be difficult to maintain. So I'll take the time here to thank Eddy for his many months of hosting services for our cause. He has helped us to achieve where we are now. Thanks Ed!

Shalom fans! It's been a long time since the last posting and I figured it would only be appropriate to update you all on what has been going on and what will, in the future I"YH, transpire.

In late July we aired Mamamitzvah for the first time in many months, as well as Rav Eli from the Jewish Home (www.thejewishhome.org) for the first time ever! The subject was Tu B'Av, Jewish "date night", and Rav Eli spoke as he always does, with ruach and sophistication. It was a great show and can be downloaded from the archive section to the right of this post.
In other news, we may or may not be having a show tomorrow night. It depends on several factors which are not completely up to me and Scott, so we will have to wait and see what happens! If we DO have a show, Gd willing Mamamitzvah will be on to play her interview with the Pollard family. It will be an excellent show I"YH, whenever we are capable of airing it.

Scott and I are considering broadcasting on TUESDAYS as well as Thursdays, for an equal amount of time. If you would like this to happen, bring in more fans! We need more consistent listeners, as well as suggestions for future improvements. We also might be broadcasting via another medium in addition to the Virtual Yeshiva. Again, this depends on the fanbase. So spread the word and help to make Emes V'Emunah what it can be!

We're Back!

Shalom and shavua tov, fans and everyone else following the latest Shabbos of the year (well after 9 PM it ended tonight).
It's good to be back on air once again, after an absence of well over a month! Scott joined me as we discussed the [broken] curse of Shimon Peres, the 17th of Tammuz, and the concept of "Kiddush Hashem". A listener also called in to ask about the concept of loshon hora as it relates to "chillul Hashem". It was a very interesting and fulfilling show and I thank the listeners for joining us!
Scott and I are contemplating adding another day to the Emes V'Emunah schedule, either Monday or Tuesday. HOWEVER, in order to do this, you, the loyal fans, must bring in new listeners! We can only devote more time if we can rest assured that more people will come to listen.

As school wraps up for me and Scott, we will I"YH have the opportunity to devote more time and effort to the show, and we are considering adding Tuesday to the broadcasting schedule, which would mean airing twice a week! More on that, G-d willing, in the future.

Also, we are planning to have a very special guest on as soon as we can get in contact with him. I'll give you two words to describe THAT episode: red heifer :) For any of you who are not familiar with it, the riddle of the red heifer (parah adumah) is one of the last, if not the last mystery of halacha... King Solomon, the wisest man in the world, did not understand it, and so the riddle remains. However, I"YH, this will change very soon, if the possible guest speaker has anything to do with it...

Shalom Emes V'Emunah fans (and everyone else)... I just wanted to give a small update after a long absence of posting and after not having a show last week (Shavuos). As of now we have a good number of recorded past episodes of EV'E in the archived list on the right side of this blog. I am working on embedding a windows media player for each show into each link so that you will not have to download the shows to listen. This way you will be able to click on the link corresponding to each episode and listen with little or no waiting time. I"YH we will also be putting up a myspace for the show as well.

This week we will I"YH be having a show (Thursday at 8 PM eastern time), and Scott should be there as well. He is recovering after a short but serious illness that at one point sent him to the E.R. G-d willing we will have a good turnout and lots of things to talk about! Stay tuned!

Present Debate

Shalom!

In the midst of getting ready for Shabbos which begins shortly I"YH, I thought I would post a quick update on what's been going on lately on the show. The past two shows consisted of Mamamitzvah and another guest debating about halachic obligations to move to Eretz Yisroel. Often when Mamamitzvah comes on the air, the conversation drifts to that subject as she is very passionate about the holy land, evident in the fact that she moved there several months ago as a true citizen. The first part of the debate was more intense, but I had to remind them to be careful with their words as they might offend one another. This week's show was more casual and each presented facts that were legitimate, so there was very little actual "debate" going on. Hopefully in the near future they will be able to come to a reasonable, halachic conclusion!

In other news, Israel will I"YH be replaced shortly with a new government, what I like to call the 18th "Chai" (Life) Knesset. G-d willing this will be the harbinger of Moshiach speedily in our days, so may it be.

If you look to your right you will see a column of past recorded episodes of Emes V'Emunah, for your listening pleasure. I am in the process of adding more episodes to the archive. Thanks to Eddy from California again for continuing to host my shows on his site so I can link them to my blog.

Exciting New Project!

How about a new state flag for Israel? Just kidding :) If you've ever been to a live show at www.noahchat.com, you would know that this is our broadcasting banner. Cool, huh? I'm using a new service called Windows Live Writer, which allows me to do things that blogger can't. A second thanks goes out to Eddy from California for recommending this service!

Using Eddy's website, Important Audio, and Windows Live Writer, I am currently working on a new project. In the very near future I"YH, I will have uploaded a good number of past shows to this blog and you will have easy access to each of them, in an archive section. No more having to email me for previous episodes! They will all be here, a click away!

Finally, get ready for tonight's show... we'll be going into aspects of the sefirah period that leads up to Shavuos, and hopefully there will be a concession live on air between the two who "argued" last week over the issues regarding making aliyah.

Yom Hashoah

Shalom and shavua tov on this motzei Shabbos!
Last week on April 12th, to remember the survivors and to reteach those who hadn't experienced the Holocaust, I had a very special guest, my grandmother on the show. She was the first guest on Emes V'Emunah thus far! To her I say yashar koach. She spoke of her experiences of what occurred during what is considered by some to be the most violent period of human history. Among the listeners, tears would abound and critical questions would be posed to my grandmother, who answered them to the best of her ability, and with an open heart. This was the first time she had come in contact with a computer, much less the intricacies of the virtual studio where the show is broadcasted weekly. She loved the experience and thanked everyone who had the chance to listen to her strong words. Robert and Scott also gave a brief history of their family's experiences during the period of the Holocaust. The episode had developed such a quick reputation that shortly after she was asked to speak on Rabbi Tovia Singer's show, also aired on the Virtual Yeshiva, which was to commemorate the survivors and victims of the Holocaust. The following week was in commemoration of Yom Hazikaron, Israel's version of Memorial Day. The show quickly took on a defensive tone, as Mamamitzvah and another guest argued fervently about the controversial obligation to make aliyah (immigration/ascent) to Eretz Yisroel. Although a sure conclusion was not reached between the two, they both send their sincere apologies to the listeners for perhaps being more abrasive than was necessary. In the future we will all make an effort to listen to the other side thoroughly and consider all rabbinic opinions.

This week's episode will surely be exciting and endorsed with plenty of a cappella music for the sefirah mourner's pleasure. Hope to see you all in Noah Chat!

It's Official... Welcome Scott!

Racism of a Different Breed

Shalom and Shavua Tov (Shabbos ended a little while ago). This week's show was great, especially since one of our dedicated listeners was able to voice her opinion for the first time in the noahchat! The topic was Jewish racism of the more civilized Arabs. Some of us thought that kind Arabs deserve to be treated the same way, and others believed that they are inherently against us and should thus be viewed as such. The debate got hot but we seemed to come to a logical and reasonable conclusion by the hour's end. Scott also did some halachos on Purim! Yasher koach to Scott... as of now it looks like he will be the new cohost of the show. Get ready for next week's show! It's bound to be great!

Freeing Jonathan Pollard

Shalom once again and shavua tov!

Last week's show, B"H was better than ever! Unfortunately Robert was again unable to attend and I do not know if he will be co-hosting in the future, but Scott was there to pick up the pieces and give some halachos on Purim, very current indeed. And in the virtual studio we maintained an upbeat but sincere discussion on the topic of Jonathan Pollard, for whose sake a worldwide rally was taking place as we were broadcasting. The learning was for his sake, I"YH, and some awesome music was present to keep our hopes up! G-d willing Jonathan Pollard will be freed immediately, amen! As of now we are not certain, but Scott may be accompanying me for future shows; it depends on whether or not Robert wants to continue.

Shalom! As hoped, this week's show (January 25th) was a success after several weeks devoid of air time. Unfortunately, Robert was unable to join us, not for health reasons B"H but because he had technical trouble getting into the virtual studio. Hopefully this problem will be resolved for next week.
This week's topic was Holocaust denial, and was hilighted by some holy guests who spoke of the reality of the situation, and how to deal with it. Very very interesting and pressing for today's world. It's Official

Saddam Hussein has been executed on the eve of the 10th of Tevet, a Jewish fast day, when the evil Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem. One can research the striking similarities and know that this is no coincidence, that he may have been the gilgul (reincarnation) of Nebuchadnezzar.

Now that that's been said, I thank all the listeners for coming this past Thursday for the Emes V'Emunah Show, Chanukah Part 2. In addition to the many halachic rulings taught by the trusty Scott, I had as a guest once again Mamamitzvah, who spoke with me in memory of Michoel Timmerman aka Frisco. He was a dear friend of the Virtual Yeshiva where I host my radio show weekly, and will be sorely missed. Condolences can be made at Rabbi Eli's website, www.thejewishhome.org. Again this week Robert was unable to attend due to a stomach virus, which by next week hopefully IY"H will be gone so we can have a show together. He is recuperating at home.

Show Postponement

Robert and I sincerely apologize for not having the show this week. Very last minute, Robert called to tell me that he wasn't feeling well enough to have the show this week and thus, Chanukah Part 2 was regrettably postponed :( However, this is something that neither Robert nor I could control and I think a refua shelema is in order for him.
